I know he needs to buy some kind of USB cord but the
one at Best Buy was $25!! Anyplace to get one much
cheaper than that as I do not feel there is $25 worth
of labor and material in the cord?
BB is anything but. look around for a better price. btw, the cord is the
same as used by many/most cameras, you might have one now and not know it,
double check. you could also ask a friend if you could borrow one,
they’re really common.
Also…. is it wise to update the firmware if nothing
in it is “bothering” you? Best to leave well enough
alone?
Sure. But the latest FW is pretty stable. Get the WebUpdater util and
use it; be SURE the unit has a full battery charge first tho. Depending on
which gps chip is in your nuvi there might also be a chip-firmware update,
those are worth getting for sure.
And…. anyway to update maps for free? Or must he pay the $80 fee to do so?
Firmware is free, map update is not. 2008 maps are not that old, probably
not worth paying for the 2009′s. Wait a few years.
