Garmin Nuvi 260

I’m considering replacing my SP2610 with a Nuvi 260W, mostly because I like the 3D views in the Nuvi. The 2610 was a very expensive model in its day – which was, what, all of about 2.5 years ago?  Am I going to lose anything in the transition? …besides the external antenna port?  Will the Nuvi be able to hold onto the birds when I plug it into the wife’s 2001 Chevy minivan with the metallic windshield tint? For the record, my Nuvi 350, despite its high-sensitivity receiver,... more

I have a 260W. It takes about 20 seconds to boot up and then another 30 to 40 seconds to lock onto satellites. This is when my car is parked. Is this normal? >I’d say that’s normal, as that’s about what it takes for my 350 to work. If I am driving, it can take upwards of 15 minutes to get a signal lock. I have read that it is much harder to get a lock while driving but I have also heard that Tom Tom compensates for that with some sort of software patch. Is this true? If so, does... more

My daughter is somewhat directionally-challenged.  I like gadgets. So, with some skepticism, I purchased a Nuvi 260W for myself and a 350 for her. We then set out on a trip to Norfolk, VA, about 2 hours away.  We located the street address of our hotel in Norfolk, punched it into the units, and away we went — wife and I in one car, daughter in another ( she’s staying a few extra days ) and we followed the Garmins’ directions without checking a map. Damn if we didn’t drive... more

I have a Garmin GPSmap 76Cx; I’m looking at the Nuvi 200W or 260W to stick in my car on the suction mount to replace the 76Cx, which rolls all over the place. When I purchased the 76Cx, it came with North America maps installed but without an SD card.  The NA map was pretty basic and did not contain the rural areas of TN, VA, and WV where I find myself.  I purchased an SD card, the Garmin City Navigator NT CD, and the Garmin US Topo CD.  I then loaded more detailed maps into the 76Cx and... more

We have a Garmin Nuvi 260 that was purchased in April 2008. Recently, we’ve noticed that when it’s fully charged, and then used on battery for say an hour in the car, it then blips – low battery - Both my son & I have had this happen…. It’s good, then we drive somewhere for about 1 hr, stop… turn off the Nuvi, do our thing for a couple of hours, and when we come back and turn it back on to go home – it’s 1 bar - and blips with Low Battery. It is... more
