Garmin Nuvi 200

Do you constantly find that you get lost and have to ask for directions, or do you become more lost because you are too proud to stop and ask? Well if your car was equipped with a Garmin Nuvi 200, you will never be off track again. The Garmin Nuvi 200 is said to be an entry level satellite navigation system, but it is far from basic. It is reliable, easy to set up and use, and it is the least expensive auto GPS. The Garmin Nuvi 200 is user friendly and highly functional. It is not only a GPS system,... more

I like and use Easy GPS http://www.easygps.com/ – EasyGPS is the fast and easy way to transfer waypoints, routes, and tracks between your computer and your Garmin, Magellan, or Lowrance GPS. EasyGPS lists all of your waypoints on the left side of the screen, and shows a plot of your GPS data on the right. Use EasyGPS to back up and organize your GPS data, print maps, or load new waypoints onto your GPS for your next hike or geocaching adventure. EasyGPS works with every popular handheld GPS... more

Nuvi 200 doesn’t store tracks, but waypoints on that model are GPX files that can be read with file->open in the Plus edition.  200 doesn’t do realtime positioning or track storage. Check Garmin’s site to see if they have a Mapsource version that covers the area you need. AKPC_IDS += "437,";Popularity: 6% [?] Read More →

How do I get the Nuvi to show me Lat/Long ? I know it can because it did it once for me, somehow by moving my finger on the screen, but I can’t seem to go it to do it again. Touch the car symbol on the map – it comes up if you want to save the local location as a favorite, but you can edit it too. AKPC_IDS += "428,";Popularity: 8% [?] Read More →

I know he needs to buy some kind of USB cord but the one at Best Buy was $25!!  Anyplace to get one much cheaper than that as I do not feel there is $25 worth of labor and material in the cord? BB is anything but.  look around for a better price.  btw, the cord is the same as used by many/most cameras, you might have one now and not know it, double check.  you could also ask a friend if you could borrow one, they’re really common. Also…. is it wise to update the firmware if nothing in... more

I bought one of these a month ago. When it works it is perfect. However, that is only 70% of the time. It loses the satellite, often for a whole day. I have had it exchanged, only to get the same result. In fact the replacement has someone’s home address saved in it, so must have been returned as well. I am trying to operate it around the south of Scotland and Edinburgh. It is so unreliable that it is no use as I don’t know if it will work or not. It’s going back to the shop, but... more

I am new to the GPS scene. I recently purchased a NUVI 200. I have some custom .img maps that I would like to add to my NUVI. I created a folder called “garmin” on my SD card. I copied a few maps to the folder. Turned off/on my GPS but the damn thing still won’t see the new maps. IMG2GPS program doesn’t work as it does not see my GPS via USB. What do I need to do to upload custom Garmin maps to my NUVI 200 and make the device read them? I don’t have that GPS but the... more

Is there a screen shot where I can view my actual coordinates? 2 ways on my Nuvi.  From the main menu, press the bars in the upper left and that will display the satellite screen which has the coordinates.  Also, from the main menu, Where to -> Coordinates. Can this GPS be used for geocaching also?? Basically yes but it wasn’t designed for that.  I’ve used mine on a couple a geocaching trips.  What the Nuvi really lacks is a compass and direction arrow to point the way to the cache. The... more
